While it greatly streamlines and simplifies economy through gold (it is much harder to attain in this game), it also feels slower. STRONGHOLD CRUSADER 2 PATCH
Like /u/BaronVSS mentions, the Unofficial Community Patch brings a lot of improvements and bugfixes to the table. It has a long Skirmish Trail and lots of other missions of historic relevance, plenty of challenging missions to keep you on your toes. Skirmish mode is the bread and butter of this game. Its combat is solid and almost every unit has its usage (not counting hardcore multiplayer). It has a smoother gameplay, more lively castle population and is more responsive. Crusader 1 is recommended out of the two:
